Pakistani Test skipper Misbah-ul-Haq won the ICC Spirit of Cricket Award, the ICC tweeted Thursday.

The 42-year-old was given the award for inspiring his side to play the game with zest and zeal that mirrors his own.

The Pakistani Test side rose to the number one spot on the ICC Test rankings during his captaincy this year, that too in a time when Pakistan only plays international cricket away from home.

Misbah is the first ever Pakistani to win the award. Previous winners include MS Dhoni (2011), Daniel Vettori (2012), Mahela Jayawardena (2013), Katherine Brunt (2014) and Brendon McCullum (2015).

Romania's Social Democrat Party (PSD) proposed a leftist woman from the country's tiny Muslim minority as prime minister on Wednesday, a close associate of PSD power broker Liviu Dragnea who was ruled out of the job after being convicted in a 2012 referendum rigging case.

Sevil Shhaideh, 52 who must be approved by President Klaus Iohannis and then get a parliamentary vote of confidence, has served under a previous leftist-led government as regional development minister.

ISLAMABAD: In a major reshuffle of the federal bureaucracy, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Wednesday approved new assignments for about a dozen grade-22 and 21 officers.

Shoaib Siddiqui was transferred from the ministry of interior, where he was posted as special secretary, and posted as the secretary of the national security division.

Mr Siddiqui’s transfer was, however, seen against the backdrop of the recent report of the judicial commission led by Supreme Court Justice Qaiz Faez Isa on the Quetta Civil Hospital carnage which questioned the appointment of a special secretary in the interior ministry.

Aviation Secretary Irfan Ilahi has been given the additional responsibility of the chairman of the Pakistan International Airlines. The position fell vacant after the resignation of then chairman Azam Saigol.

Iftikhar Hussain Babar has been posted as the secretary of Wafaqi Mohtasib in place of Pir Baksh Jamali.

Pakistan on Saturday urged the World Bank to fulfill its commitment in regards to the Indus Water Treaty (IWT), reported Radio Pakistan.

The demand was made by Finance Minister Ishaq Dar in a letter to the President of the World Bank Group Jim Yong Kim.

Dar said in his letter that World Bank's earlier decision will seriously prejudice Pakistan's interests and rights under the terms of the Indus Water Treaty of 1960.

An unwelcome Christmas surprise in southern Germany forced the evacuation of 54,000 people from their homes Sunday after the discovery of a bomb dating from World War II, local authorities said.

It was a British bomb that was found in the city of Augsburg and led to the biggest mobilisation in Germany — around 900 police officers — since the war itself.

The 1.8-tonne explosive had been found on Tuesday during work at a construction site in the centre of the Bavarian city, but authorities planned to defuse the bomb around mid-day Sunday.
