The International Day forthe Eradication of Povertyhas been observed everyyear since 1993, when theGeneral Assembly, byresolution 47/196, designated this day topromote awareness of theneed to eradicate povertyand destitution in allcountries, particularly indeveloping countries - a need that has become adevelopment priority. The theme for this year’sInternational Day for theEradication of Poverty --“Working together outof poverty” -- highlightsthe need for a truly global anti-poverty alliance, onein which both developedand developing countriesparticipate actively.
