DERA GHAZI KHAN - Lahore High Court Chief Justice Manzoor Ahmed Malik directed the judges of lower courts to dispose of all cases laying pending for the past four years before summer vacations.
The demands of justice must be fulfilled and merit should be upheld to ensure speedy justice for lasting peace in the society.
The LHC CJ was addressing a joint session of the judges, District Bar Association and administrative officers here on Friday. Justice Malik informed that the process of recruitment of 696 civil judges was in final phase and by upcoming September the shortage of judges in lower courts would be overcome.
The LHC chief justice directed the judges to ensure review of progress on cases on weekly basis instead of once in a month while attendance of the accused in courts should be ensured timely besides arrest of proclaimed offenders as well as summoning of witnesses in various cases.
He also directed the DG Khan Divisional Commissioner to ensure uninterrupted power supply from 8:00am to 2:00pm to courts.
Justice Malik pointed out that he had started visit programme from the remote Dera Ghazi Khan Division, adding that he would visit Bahawalpur and Sargodha divisions in the coming days to resolve issues that were impeding the speedy trial of cases.
He urged the lawyers community not opt for strikes over petty issues as it was a respectable profession while applicants get disappointed with the repeated strikes, adding that the lawyers should cooperate with the bench to address the disappointment prevailed among the justice-seekers.
The LHC CJ asked Member Punjab Bar Council Mohammad Arif Khan Gurmani and DBA President Mohammad Saleem Raza Kakar to nominate five lawyers with consensus who would be appointed as judges after fulfilling the criteria and merit for the process.
DG Khan Commissioner Mohammad Saqib Aziz, District and Sessions Judge Rao Abdul Jabar Khan, sessions judges of other districts of the division, Regional Police Officer Rehmatullah Khan Niazi, DG Khan DCO Nadeemul Rehman, DPO Ghulam Mubashir Maikan and other officers were also present on the occasion.
